It would be great if you could do some work on Catherine and John to try and show if they actually are Philip's parents. The marriage record for Philip and Malinda states that his parents were John and Catherine Anderson and that he was born in Botetourt County, VA and that he was widowed. That is why I think the two daughters Cynthia and Sarah listed in the 1880 Census with Malinda, Elizabeth, Nannie and Ida may have been his daughters by his previous marriage. Of course, Malinda had also been married before and it is possible they were her daughters. Cynthia and Sarah are listed as "daughters", not "step-daughters" with Malinda--Philip was deceased at that point.
